Taking a stock plan to your building department
A stock plan is drawn before anyone knows your lot. Your building department reads it together with the pieces that are about your site.
Call first
Ask what an application needs where you build. Departments differ, and theirs is the list that counts.
What you usually add
- A site plan: where the house sits on the lot, with setbacks.
- Your site's design values, such as snow load, wind speed and frost depth, set against the baseline printed on the cover sheet.
- Truss design drawings from your truss manufacturer.
- Energy compliance for your climate zone.
- Septic or sewer and water approvals.
- Any professional review or stamp your jurisdiction asks for.
Where the set helps
The drawing set gives the reviewer the house itself, sheet by sheet.
